João Morgado

João Morgado, a distinguished architect and photographer from Portugal, stands at the convergence of architectural brilliance and 3D innovation as the co-founder of the LOOP Design Awards. Not only celebrated for his 2014 Arcaid Images Architectural Photography Award, João has also played a pivotal role in designing unique 3D awards for the LOOP Design Awards, setting new standards in recognizing architectural and design excellence. This talk delves into João's multifaceted career, highlighting how his passion for architecture and photography is augmented by his exploration into 3D printing, bringing a new dimension to celebrating design achievements.

I was born in 1981 Porto. My academic path, i attended the course of Scenic Arts at A.C.E.- Contemporary Contemporary Academy and in 2006 started the course of Technical Effects for the Performing Arts at the London College of Fashion. In 2015 i was invited to participate in the Talent Campus as part of the Berlin Film Festival - Berlinale. I always keep in touch with new techniques and products so i did a Auricular Prosthesis course at Technovent and a Old Age Sculpting Prosthetics with Kazuhiro Tsuji in the UK. In the last years i’ve been doing more work on medical prosthesis collaborating with INEGI, Óptica Moutinho, Dr. Marisa Zenha among others. In 2009 i launched RIOT FILMS - a production company based in Porto, where i developed my work as Art Director and Special Effects, signing short and feature films that took my work around more than 250 film festivals and 183 awards, with nominations at the Goya Awards and the José Maria Forqué Awards standing out. Throughout these years i collaborated with national and international names such as Manoel de Oliveira, Aki Kaurismaki, Peter Greenaway, Edgar Pêra, António Ferreira, Rodrigo Areias, Jorge Quintela, Paulo Abreu, among others. Since 2013 i’ve been teaching regularly at various Universities and private schools in Portugal, and in 2016 i’ve become Head of the Special Effects course at Makeup School Lisbon and a collaborator tutor at ESMAE.
